Braids can form the foundation for a variety of hairstyles. Using your imagination, you can create hairstyles that are appropriate for a range of situations, from casual settings to more sophisticated environments.
Basic French Braid
- A French braid is a classic look that is a popular elegant hairstyle. To make a French braid, brush tangles out of hair, then gather hair towards the middle of the head and, between your fingers, make three sections. Take the right section of hair and cross it over the middle section. (The right section and middle section will trade places.) Next, cross the left section over the middle section. Continue doing this, grabbing more hair into each section as you move down the head. Also, gather each section tightly to keep the braid taut. When you get to the base of the head, continue to braid the hair unto the ends, then secure with a band.
Braided Ponytails
- There are a couple of different ways that you can pair a braid and ponytail for a glamorous look. First, begin by making a classic French braid, but stop braiding when you reach the base of the head. Gather the remaining hair in an elastic to make a ponytail. Curl the hair in the ponytail with a large barrel curling iron and, pull the hair over one shoulder.Another version of this look can be achieved by making a side part in the hair. Begin the French braid at the side part, braiding towards the ear. When you get to the base of the head, secure the braid with an elastic. Then gather all of the hair into a ponytail at the base of the head.
Braided Bun
- Take a 2 inch section of hair and start a french braid behind one ear, braiding toward the other ear and securing the braid with an elastic where it reaches the other ear. Braid the remainder of the hair into a loose braid, then wrap into a bun and secure with bobby pins. Next, take the first French braid and wrap it around the base of the bun, securing with an elastic.
